During the Storm
If there's a power outage, do the following:
Unplug electronic appliances such as televisions, microwaves, and computers
to avoid potential power surge damage when electricity is restored.
Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. Food should keep about
6 to 9 hours in a refrigerator without spoiling. Frozen food should keep
about 24 hours.
Should your home become flooded, check with an electrician before turning
anything on.
If your area is without power, or you see downed wires, call 781 631-0240.
Call if you see damage to electrical equipment, or anything unusual such as
trees or branches on wires.
DO NOT GO NEAR WIRES, even a downed wire may be dangerous.
If you have a generator, use it safely (see below).
Generator Safety
Check into all federal, state, and local electric codes that pertain to generators.
Follow manufacturer's instructions for operating the generator properly.
Never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet.
Never run a generator inside a building.
Choose a clean, dry, well ventilated location for your generator.
Store fuel in approved containers and out of the reach of children.
Keep a proper fire extinguisher near the generator.
