As we enter 2026, we’d like to share some of what you can expect from the Marblehead Light Department in the new year. We look forward to several new initiatives intended to invest in our local system for the benefit of our customers. These upcoming projects are expected to focus on reliability of our distribution system, resiliency of our transmission supply, and affordability of our power portfolio. Additionally, we are eager to complete several ongoing projects, including our new Village Street substation.
This year, we also want to help you gain more control over your energy costs, whether through efficiency rebates, electrification incentives, or outreach and engagement activities. Watch for details via our new customer newsletter—The LightKeeper, here on our website, and in social media.
As always, we remain committed to providing exemplary customer service, delivering reliable power, maintaining competitive rates, reducing our carbon footprint, and fostering a safe, productive working environment. On behalf of our entire team, thank you for being such a supportive community and have a Happy New Year!
With respect and gratitude,
Jon Blair, General Manager

In 2024, MMLD adjusted its rate structure for all metered classes of electric service. These revenue-neutral rate changes were a continuation of our multi-year plan to ensure our rates accurately reflect the Cost of Service study findings undertaken by Utility Financial Solutions LLC, (UFS), a highly reputable, nationally recognized firm in Holland, MI.
Use our Rates Page to help you understand your rates. If you have any questions, call us at (781) 631-5600 or send us an email.
MMLD's "Go Green Now!"program is for customers who are concerned about climate change and want to do something about it. It's an optional rate opportunity to purchase your electricity from 100% Carbon-free Energy sources!
Customers who opt-in to “Go Green Now!” agree to pay an agreed-upon monthly incremental amount. (There's always an opt-out option.) All customers making 12 Green Choice payments in a year will receive written confirmation that their prior year energy usage was in fact 100% Carbon-free.

MMLD is a municipally-owned electric company that has been totally independent from large regional electric companies since 1894. We're "consumer-owned", and the citizens of Marblehead are our stockholders. That's a win-win for our town's homes and businesses in many ways.
Over 125 years ago, citizens and businesspeople with vision struck a choice for energy independence. Like all great Yankees, our town went the independent route and chose to provide Marblehead with electricity through our own utility — instead of outsourcing this essential responsibility to a private entity that would be out of the town's (and customers') control.
